The Cameo Convert can be used under Linux without any major changes to the system,  the only requirement is a kernel and system that supports ieee1394 (aka. FireWire).  [. . . ] The usual path where MainActor is extracted to is /opt/MainActor. You should check the proper detection of your ieee1394 interface,  for example in your debug messages which can be viewed with the "dmesg" command. Usually it is enough to grep it for "ieee1394" and check if the messages say something good :). If you experience errors or no ieee1394 messages at all,  you have to check the installation and implementation of the ieee1394 interface. The following steps should be done under the graphical environment,  for example WindowMaker or KDE. You find an application called "madvcap" in your MainActor Folder,  this program can be used to "record" the input from the Cameo Convert.
