The design team looked to the future to develop a highly efficient, environmentally friendly system, with state of the art controls. Linking the precision performance of their leading inverter technology with the functionality of fixed speed units, Toshiba have created a range of systems from 22. 4 to 128. 8 kW (8 to 46 hp). The inverter unit adjusts performance to match the desired output as each fixed speed unit operates as needed. [. . . ] · Side Access see diagram. The indoor piping can be made up from a combination of Y joints and headers (4 and 8-way). Branch kits can be used in any part of the system and are available in 4 sizes. They are commonly used throughout a system. If more convenient, header kits (4 or 8-way, 2 sizes for each) may be used. Branch and header kits can be used after header kits. The connections to all Y joints and headers are stepped. Accordingly, each connection must be cut to provide the appropriate connection size. Note 1 Pipe sizes and Refnex branch/header kits for indoor piping are determined by the selected capacity code (hp) of the associated indoor units. This means that consideration must be given to all capacity code settings rated and de rated. Note 2 If the total capacity code of the associated indoor units exceeds that of the outdoor unit, then the capacity code of the outdoor unit must be applied. This ensures that the pipe sizes will never "step-up" and you can never have a larger consecutive branch/header kit. Note 3 Please note that where any indoor pipe length (first branch/header to indoor unit) exceeds 30m, the gas pipe dedicated to that indoor unit must be increased by one size. Note 4 When using 4, or 8-way header kits, the total indoor unit capacity connected to any single header connection should not exceed capacity code 6 (6 hp). The type and thickness will be dependent on the specific application and local standards. Long pipe runs and exposure to extreme conditions will require additional protection. Recommended minimum insulation wall thickness for typical applications: Liquid pipe Gas pipe 9 mm wall thickness 13 mm wall thickness 90 Refrigerant Piping Design Additional Refrigerant The outdoor units are pre-charged, however, additional refrigerant will be added the weight required determined by the length of liquid pipes, in accordance with the table below. [. . . ] For system 3: The outdoor system selected is a MM-A0280HT (Code 10, Rated cooling capacity 28 kW) Corrected OU duty = 28 x 0. 92 = 25. 8 kW The total code of indoor units is 12 (Total duty = 31. 2) Overload =12/10 = 1. 2 (ratio of IU to OU codes) Corresponding Overload factor = 1. 08 Therefore Outdoor Unit will give 1. 08 x 25. 8 = 28 kW The Indoor units in total will now only be able to provide 28 kW The corresponding duty that one 5. 2 kW unit (5. 6 kW (rated) x 0. 92 (correction factor)) will provide is now (5. 2/31. 2) x 28 kW = 4. 7 kW 16 125 MMS Equipment Selection Example Step 5: Piping Design The next stage in the design process is to determine the piping layout, pipe sizes and all header and branch sizes and reference names. The proposed piping layout is shown below. The systems are then evaluated using the respective code settings of the indoor and outdoor units. Indoor units downstream of a header or branching joint are added together to determine that unit's capacity and the interconnecting pipework, while the main pipe and the 1st header/branch off it, is determined by the size of the outdoor unit. However, if the code of the indoor units exceeds that of the outdoor unit at any stage along the piping network, the pipework is determined by the size of the outdoor unit. The tables from chapter 13 must be used for the selection of header and branch units and piping selections. 126 MMS Equipment Selection Example The following are the mechanical schematics for the three systems above with all selected joints and pipework shown. 16 127 MMS Equipment Selection Example 120 16 MMS Equipment Selection Example 128 MMS Equipment Selection Example Step 6: Controls Selection Toshiba has a wide range of controls for numerous applications and is willing to work with customers to optimise designs for their special needs.
