Using Turn Off or Shut down
If you are using the Windows® XP Home operating system, or are using the Windows® XP Professional operating system and are not a member of a domain, power off the computer as follows: 1 Click Start, Turn off computer. The Turn off computer window appears.

The computer turns itself off. If you are using the Windows® XP Professional operating system and are a member of a domain, power off the computer as follows: 1 Click the Start button, then Shut down. The Shut Down window appears.

NOTE
Holding the Shift key while the Turn Off computer Windows® dialog box is open, changes the Standby button to hibernate. For more information about setting up hibernation "Hibernation command" on page 103 and "Using Hibernation" on page 108.
Turning off or shutting down more quickly
In addition to the method described above, you can turn off or shut down the computer by pressing the power button. To do so, you must preset the mode in Toshiba's Power Saver utility. 1 2 3 Open the Start menu, click Control Panel, then Performance and Maintenance. The TOSHIBA Power Saver Properties window appears.

To start the computer up again, press and release the power button. The on/off light turns on.
Using Hibernation
When Hibernation is enabled, you can put the computer into Hibernation in more than one way.
Enabling the Hibernation command

Starting again from Standby
To start the computer from Standby mode, press the power button. The computer returns to the screen you were using. If you put the computer in Standby mode by closing the display panel, you can start it again by opening the display panel.

Your computer enters a low-power standby mode when it is not being used, thereby conserving energy and saving money in the process. It has a number of other features that enhance its energy efficiency. Many of these energy-saving features have been set by Toshiba. We recommend you leave these features active, allowing your computer to operate at its maximum energy efficiency, so that you can use it for longer periods while traveling.
Running the computer on battery power
The computer contains a removable Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) high-capacity battery that provides power when you are away from an AC outlet. You can recharge it many times.
