Introduction
These release notes contain information about the Trimble S3 Total Station firmware version M2. 1. 20. In a newly purchased instrument, Trimble S3 Total Station firmware version M2. 1. 20 is already installed from the factory. [. . . ] Download the file Trimble S3 Total Station Firmware M2. 1. 20. exe from www. trimble. com/trimbleS3 and save it to a convenient location on your office computer. Connect a hirose 6-pin to PC USB cable (part number 73840001 or 738140019) from the instrument foot connector labeled COM to a USB port on the office computer. Ensure that you have a fully charged battery in the instrument. Run the file Trimble S3 Total Station Firmware M2. 1. 20. exe that you saved on the office computer to begin the firmware upgrade. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the upgrade.
Using the Trimble S3 Total Station with other Trimble Products
Trimble S3 Total Station firmware version M2. 1. 20 is compatible with the following Trimble survey field software.

Trimble Survey Controller version 12. 46 or later on Trimble TSC2. Trimble Survey Manager Field 2. 81 or later. Please check the release notes for the respective Trimble survey field software for more product information including operating system and Trimble office software requirements. IMPORTANT: This version of Trimble S3 Total Station firmware is not compatible with versions of Trimble survey field software older than those listed above. Please take note of the following information before upgrading your Trimble S3 Total Station. If you have a new instrument that was delivered with firmware version M2. 1. 20 already installed, please note that any controller that will be used with the new instrument is required to run the respective Trimble survey field software version listed above or later. New Features / Enhancements
The Trimble S3 Total Station firmware version M2. 1. 20 includes the following new features and enhancements:
Improvements to the control loop that controls the center unit in the total station. These improvements are intended to avoid the possibility of vertical oscillation in the telescope caused by changes (reductions) in friction as the telescope is moving.
