Introduction
These release notes contain information about the Trimble S8 Total Station firmware version R12. 2. 45. In a newly purchased instrument, Trimble S8 Total Station firmware version R12. 2. 45 is already installed from the factory. [. . . ] Download the file Trimble S8 Total Station Firmware R12. 2. 45. exe from www. trimble. com/trimbles8 and save it to a convenient location on your office computer. Connect a hirose 6-pin to PC USB cable (part number 73840001 or 738140019) from the instrument foot connector labeled COM to a USB port on the office computer. Ensure that the Trimble CU / Trimble TSC2 controller is removed and that you have a fully charged battery in the instrument. Run the file Trimble S8 Total Station Firmware R12. 2. 45. exe that you saved on the office computer to begin the firmware upgrade. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the upgrade.
Using the Trimble S8 Total Station with other Trimble Products
Trimble S8 Total Station firmware version R12. 2. 45 is compatible with the following Trimble survey field software.

Trimble Access 1. 4. 0 or later on the Trimble CU and Trimble TSC2. Trimble Survey Controller version 12. 20 or later on the Trimble CU and Trimble TSC2. Trimble Survey Manager Field and Tablet PC version 2. 51 or later. Please check the release notes for the respective Trimble survey field software for more specific product information including operating system and Trimble office software requirements. IMPORTANT: This version of Trimble S8 Total Station firmware is not compatible with versions of Trimble survey field software older than those listed above. Please take note of the following information before upgrading your Trimble S8 Total Station. If you have a new instrument that was delivered with firmware version R12. 2. 45 already installed, please note that any controller that will be used with the new instrument is required to run the respective Trimble survey field software version listed above or later. Controllers delivered at the same time as a new instrument will already have the latest versions installed. New Features / Enhancements
The Trimble S8 Total Station firmware version R12. 2. 45 includes the following new features and enhancements: Improvements to the control loop that controls the center unit in the total station. These improvements are intended to avoid the possibility of vertical oscillation in the telescope - caused by changes (reductions) in friction as the telescope is moving.
