Never allowchildrentouse this unit. WARNING: Do not use trimmer head as a fastening device for the blade. Stop coasting blade by contact with cut material WARNING: WARNING:Thebladecontinues tospinaf- Follow all warnings and instructions. Failuretodosocanresultinserious injury. terthethrottleisreleasedor, engineisturnedoff. Thecoastingbladecanthrowobjects orseriously cutyouifaccidentallytouched. Stopthe blade by contacting the left hand side of the coasting blade with material already cut. OPERATOR SAFETY DANGER:Blade canthrust violently away frommaterialitdoes notcut. Blade thrustcan cause amputation of arms or legs. Keep peopleandanimals 50feet(15meters)away. [. . . ] Be sure to wear gloves while working with blades. S If your unit has a plastic cover over the threads onthe shaft, remove thecovering to expose the threads. S Turnunitover (threads onshaftfacingup), place the metal shield over the gearbox, and align the screw holes. Metal shield NOTE: Make sure all parts are properly installedas illustratedintheillustrationbefore installing the trimmer head. S Alignholeinthedustcupwith thehole inthe sideofthegearboxby rotatingthedustcup. S Insert a small screwdriver into aligned holes. This will keep theshaft fromturning while tightening trimmer head. Screwdriver Gearbox S While holding the screwdriver in position, thread trimmer head onto the shaft in the direction shown on thedecal. NOTE: The retaining washer must bepositionedwiththeraisedsectionfacingtowardthe gearbox. S Insert the 4 mounting screws through the bottom of the shield. Thread them into the gearbox. Tightenevenly andsecurelywith one of the hex wrenches provided. ASSEMBLY OF THE METAL BLADE WARNING:Do notuse any blades, or fas- ASSEMBLY INFORMATION - WEED BLADE WEED BLADE teninghardwareother thanthe washers and nuts illustrated in the following illustrations. Thesepartsmustbeprovidedby WeedEater, and installed as shown below. S If engine does not stop, move choke to the FULL CHOKE position. ADVANCING THE TRIMMER LINE Trimmerlinewilladvanceapproximately2in. ( 5 cm)eachtimethebottomofthetrimmerheadis tappedonthegroundwiththeenginerunningat full throttle. Themostefficientline lengthis themaximum length allowed by line limiter. Always keeptheshieldin placewhen thetool is being operated. To Advance Line: S Operate the engine at full throttle. S Holdthetrimmer headparalleltoandabove the grassy area. S Tap bottom of trimmer head lightly on the groundonetime. Approximately 2in. (5cm) of line will be advanced with each tap. A S BladeThrust is a reactionthat only occurs whenusingabladedunit. This reactioncan cause serious injury such as amputation. Carefullystudythissection. Itisimportantthat youunderstandwhatcauses bladethrust, howyoucanreducethechanceofitsoccurring, andhowyoucanremainincontrolofunit if blade thrust occurs. S WHAT CAUSESBLADETHRUST - Blade Thrust canoccur whenthe spinningblade contacts anobjectthatit does not cut. This contactcausesthebladetostopforaninstant and then suddenly move or "thrust" away fromtheobjectthatwashit. The"thrusting"reactioncanbeviolentenoughtocausetheoperatortobepropelledinanydirectionandlose controloftheunit. Theuncontrolledunitcan causeseriousinjuryifthebladecontactsthe operator or others. S WHEN BLADE THRUST OCCURS Blade thrust can occur without warning if the blade snags, stalls, or binds. This is morelikely tooccur inareas whereitis difficult to see the material beingcut. [. . . ] Where a warrantable condition exits, POULAN/WEED EATER will repair your lawn and garden equipment engine at no cost to you. Expenses covered under warranty include diagnosis, parts and labor. MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY COVERAGE: If any emissions related part on your engine(as listedunder Emissions Control Warranty Parts List) is defectiveor adefect in the materials or workmanship of the engine causes the failure of such an emission related part, the part will be repaired or replaced by POULAN/WEED EATER.
