PRECAUTIONS AND GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS • Only use the freezer for storing frozen food, freezing fresh food and production of ice cubes. Do not cover or obstruct the air vent of the appliance. Do not store liquids in glass containers in the freezer: risk of bursting. Do not eat ice cubes or ice lollies immediately after taking them out of the freezer: risk of “cold” burns. [. . . ] These factors must be taken into account when setting the thermostat. Freezing The maximum amount of fresh food that can be frozen over a period of 24 hours is shown on the rating plate. To obtain the best performance from the appliance, push the fast freeze button (until the yellow light comes on) 24 hours before placing fresh food in the freezer. Food must be stored in the special freezing compartments (see product description sheet supplied). In appliances with more than 5 compartments, remove food from the compartment below those used for freezing, and place the ice packs (if supplied) in the empty compartment. Generally, 24 hours on fast freeze is sufficient after placing foodstuffs in the freezer; after this time, deselect the fast freeze function. Important: When freezing small amounts of food, use any compartment except the bottom drawer. To avoid wasting energy, the fast freeze function can also not be selected. 5 40039aGb. fm5 Page 6 Friday, August 25, 2000 4:44 PM HOW TO USE THE FREEZER Tips for freezing and storing fresh food. Before freezing, wrap and seal fresh food in: aluminium foil, cling film, air and water-tight plastic bags, polythene containers with lids, freezer containers suitable for freezing fresh food. • Food must be fresh, mature and of prime quality in order to obtain high quality frozen food. • Fresh vegetables and fruit should preferably be frozen as soon as they are picked to maintain the full original nutritional value, consistency, colour and flavour. Some meat, especially game, should be hung before it is frozen. The amount of ice which forms and the rate at which it accumulates will depends on room temperature and humidity, and on the frequency with which the door is opened. If possible, defrost the freezer compartment when it is nearly empty. • Remove the food from the freezer compartment, wrap in a newspaper and group together in a cool place or in a portable cooler. Leave the freezer door open to allow the frost to melt Pull out the defrost water drain and place a bowl under the drain. Clean the interior of the freezer compartment with a sponge and warm water and/or neutral detergent. Note: for electronic models, push the on/off button after plugging the appliance into the mains and before switching it on. • • • • • • • • • CARE AND MAINTENANCE Periodically clean the condenser (radiator) at the rear of the appliance and the plinth with a vacuum cleaner or brush.
