Freezing and storing food • • Place the food to be frozen in the freezer compartments. Ice packs (if present) must be placed in the space provided (see enclosed product card). It is advisable to indicate the storage date on the package, in order to ensure consumption within the best before date. 14 40021bgb. fm5 Page 15 Friday, November 24, 2000 5:01 PM HOW TO OPERATE THE FREEZER Storage of frozen foods When buying frozen foods, make sure that: • The wrapping or the package is intact or the food may deteriorate. If the package is swollen or has damp patches, it may not have been stored under optimal conditions and thawing may have already begun. Frozen foods should always be purchased last and thermal bags must be used for transport. Once you are home, place the frozen foods immediately in the freezer. Never refreeze partially thawed foods, use them within 24 hours. Avoid or reduce temperature variations to a minimum. Follow the instructions regarding the best before date on the pack. Always follow the instructions on the package regarding storage of frozen foods. • • • • • Removal of the drawers • Pull the drawer outwards as far as it will go, left slightly and extract it. Note: Drawers and runners may be removed in order to obtain increased storage space (Fig. 1). Making ice cubes • • • Fill the ice cube tray 2/3 full of water and place it in the freezer compartment. If the tray is stuck to the freezer bottom, do not use pointed or sharp objects to remove it. In order to remove the ice cubes with ease, bend the tray slightly. Note: Reopening the freezer door will be difficult immediately after it has been shut. Wait for two or three minutes, so that the slight vacuum in the freezer is eliminated. In the case of electronic models, push the on/off button before unplugging the appliance. Defrost the freezer once or twice a year when too much frost has accumulated on the freezer grids. Frost buildup on the freezer grids is normal. The quantity and rapidity of accumulation varies according to ambient conditions and the frequency of opening of the door and tends to be greater on the uppermost grids.
