[. . . ] If the operation fails for any reason, the error message generated by Windows Installer is displayed. The easiest way to work around the error is to open the . MSI file that had the problem, set it to generate uncompressed files, and recompile. Then use the uncompressed version in the Specify Previous Version dialog. To set an . MSI file to generate uncompressed files, go to the Media page, click the Details button, and change the Media Type field to Uncompressed external files. 7. If you have more previous versions to add, click the Add button and add them. If you are prompted to run more administrative installations, click Yes to run them. When you are finished adding previous versions, click Next. The Specify Upgrade Version dialog appears. In the Upgrade MSI path field, specify the path to the . MSI file of the latest version of your application. By default the path to the current installation's . MSI file appears. The earlier versions of your application will be upgraded to the version you specify here. Click the Advanced button, fill out the Advanced Upgrade Version Details dialog, and click OK. The administrative installation is performed automatically. After it finishes, the Compile Patch dialog appears. If you are prompted to update the package code, click Yes. In the Compile Patch dialog, specify how and where you want the patch file (. MSP) to be created. Specify a file name and location, or enter a full pathname in this field. This is the patch file that you distribute to end users. · Do not create file patches, use entire files in patch package.
