Oil filter NOTE: The warning for oil filter clogging is similar to the warnings for low oil level and overheating. To make troubleshooting easier, check for engine overheating first, then oil level, and finally oil filter clogging. 1 ZMU01872 1. Observe the following: G For permanently mounted models, your dealer or other person experienced in proper rigging should mount the motor. If you are mounting the motor yourself, you should be trained by an experienced person. First 10 minutes: Run the engine at the lowest possible speed. A fast idle in neutral is best. CAUTION: G Failure to follow the break-in procedure 33 Operation 2. Next 50 minutes: Do not exceed half throttle (approximately 3000 r/min). If you have an easy-planing boat, accelerate at full throttle onto plane, then immediately reduce the throttle to 3000 r/min or less. Next two hours: Accelerate at full throttle onto plane, then reduce engine speed to three-quarter throttle (approximately 4000 r/min). Run at full throttle for one minute, then allow about 10 minutes of operation at threequarter throttle or less to let the engine cool. Remaining seven hours: Run the engine at any speed. However, avoid operating at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time. After the first 10 hours: Operate the engine normally. G G 3. G line fumes. Check fuel line connections to be sure they are tight (if equipped Yamaha fuel tank or boat tank). Be sure the fuel tank is positioned on a secure, flat surface, and that the fuel line is not twisted or flattened, or likely to contact sharp objects (if equipped Yamaha fuel tank or boat tank).
