YS624W introduces a new powerful functionality to some of its Filter modules: a feedbackloop. Thisfeedbackloopallowsyoutosendaportionofthefilter'soutputback toitsowninput. . . withoutforgettingtofurtherprocessthesignalontheway!Thefeedbackis availableforfollowingfiltertypes:LPF2Pole, LPF4Pole, LPF8Pole, Supercomb, Allpass2, Allpass 4 and Allpass 8. 38 ­ YS624W ­ Getting Started Untilnow, allfilter'sparametersthatweadjustedwerelocatedontheMainpanel. Toaccessthefeedbackloopsettings, youneedtoswitchtothededicatedpanel. To do this: ClickonthetablabelledFB at the top of the module: TheFeedbackpanelreplacestheMainpanelinthemodulearea. Bydefault, thefeedbackisdeactivated:theFeedbackModemenu(fornowtheonly menuthatyousee)showsNormal. We will not give here all the details about the variousfeedbackpossibilities(forthat, theReferenceManualiswaitingforyou), but wewilljustshowyouhowyoucanquicklygiveaslightlydirtytouchtoyourSound. Forthat, weuseafeedbackbasedonringmodulation: 1. TheFeedbackpaneldisplaysthesettingsforthatparticularfeedbackmode: % DonothesitatetoplayabitwiththesettingsinthisFeedbackpanel:youcangetvery interesting results! Weproposeyoutosetthefeedbackasfollows: 1. ClickontheWaveformSelector(rightbelowtheFeedbackModemenu), select the Waveform Square_fractalandclick"OK"toconfirmandclosetheWaveform Selection dialog. UndertheWaveformSelector, setthefeedback'sFrequencycontrol value to somethingaround750 Hz. Now your Sound has a distinct noisy component whose tonal content changes with the note played. Use the Mix controlatthebottomtoadjusttheamountoffeedback that you want to apply. In the left column, select Filter Master 2. In the middle column, select Filter Master 2 Freq. The newly added Envelope now appears in the Envelope List and it is already selected, thus showing up in the Envelope display. If not already done, and if you feel more comfortable, you can hide all other Envelopes from the Envelope display. For example, you can do this as follows: Choose the entry All Filter from the Show menu at the top of the Envelope List. % Inothersituations, keepingseveralEnvelopesdisplayedontheEnvelopedisplaycanbe very handy to synchronize the evolution of several parameters! We are now ready to draw the Envelope for the Frequency control of our Filter. The Breakpoints ThepointsjoiningthevarioussegmentsofyourEnvelopearemarkedwithsmall squares. ThesesquaresrepresenttheBreakpoints. YoucanworkontheBreakpoints asyouseefit:addnewBreakpointstotheEnvelope, deleteBreakpoints, orrelocate them­this is all we need here. Fornow, theEnvelopeisastraightlinethatsticksatthetopofthedisplay. Inother words, the Filter's Frequency stays at its maximum value as long as we play the note (thismaximumvaluebeingdefinedbytheFrequencycontrol, seechapter4. 3. 3, "AddingotherModules").
