About This User's Guide
Intended Audience This manual is intended for people who want to configure the MM-7201. You should have at least a basic knowledge of TCP/IP and Ethernet networking concepts and topology.
It is recommended you use the web configurator to configure the MM-7201.

[. . . ] IP addresses in the Class D range (224. 0. 0. 0 to 239. 255. 255. 255) are used for IP multicasting. Certain IP multicast numbers are reserved by IANA for special purposes (see the IANA web site for more information).
27. 1. 2 IGMP Filtering
With the IGMP filtering feature, you can control which IGMP groups a subscriber on a port can join. This allows you to control the distribution of multicast services (such as content information distribution) based on service plans and types of subscription. You can set the switch to filter the multicast group join reports on a per-port basis by configuring an IGMP filtering profile and associating the profile to a port.
27. 1. 3 IGMP Snooping
A switch can passively snoop on IGMP Query, Report and Leave (IGMP version 2) packets transferred between IP multicast routers/switches and IP multicast hosts to learn the IP multicast group membership. It checks IGMP packets passing through it, picks out the group registration information, and configures multicasting accordingly. IGMP snooping allows the switch to learn multicast groups without you having to manually configure them.

Chapter 27 Multicast
The switch forwards multicast traffic destined for multicast groups (that it has learned from IGMP snooping or that you have manually configured) to ports that are members of that group. IGMP snooping generates no additional network traffic, allowing you to significantly reduce multicast traffic passing through your switch.
27. 2 Multicast Status
Use this screen to look at current multicast groups. See Section 27. 1 on page 143 for background information about multicasting. To open this screen, click Advanced Application > Multicast.

LABEL Index VID Port Multicast Group DESCRIPTION This is the index number of the entry. This field displays the multicast VLAN ID. This field displays the slot number and port number that belongs to the multicast group. This field displays IP multicast group addresses.
27. 3 Multicast Setting
Use this screen to configure multicast settings for the switch or for the ports. See Section 27. 1 on page 143 for more information on multicasting. To open this screen, click Advanced Application > Multicast > Multicast Setting.

The following table describes the labels in this screen.
Table 51 Multicast Setting
LABEL IGMP Snooping Active Host Timeout DESCRIPTION Use these settings to configure IGMP Snooping. Select Active to enable IGMP Snooping to forward group multicast traffic only to ports that are members of that group. Specify the time (from 1 to 16, 711, 450) in seconds that elapses before the switch removes an IGMP group membership entry if it does not receive report messages from the port. Enter an IGMP leave timeout value (from 1 to 16, 711, 450) in seconds. This defines how many seconds the switch waits for an IGMP report before removing an IGMP snooping membership entry when an IGMP leave message is received from a host. Select a priority level (0-7) to which the switch changes the priority in outgoing IGMP control packets. Otherwise, select No-Change to not replace the priority. Select Active to enable IGMP filtering to control which IGMP groups a subscriber on a port can join. Specify the action to perform when the switch receives an unknown multicast frame.
